10 Health & Wellness Tips During Quarantine

Challenging times in the Philippines

Today is a difficult and challenging time for all of us. Our lives have been greatly disrupted. There will be days that we will feel anxious, uncertain, or even bored.


But if we try to change our perspective and try to be positive and productive, there are a lot of things we can with this time!



Health Tip 1: HYDRATE

Water is cheap and readily available, plus it provides a lot of benefits to the body (Ex: aids digestion, boosts healthy skin, regulates body temperature especially this summertime!) Aim to drink at least 2 liters per day.

Health Tip 2: ESTABLISH A DAILY ROUTINE

Set aside time for work, eating, leisure time, and workout. By establishing a routine, you make yourself accountable to do important tasks while making time for relaxation.


During this time, especially if you are forced to work from home, it is easy to get caught up with Netflix and trying to make your dog famous on Instagram and neglecting work.


Pro Tip: The night before, make a to-do list. The following morning, attack your biggest task first, whether it is your fitness or work goals. Having accomplished that, you will find the rest of the tasks will be easier and you feel accomplished starting off the day right!




Health Tip 3: SLEEP WELL

Go for 8 hours or so. Our body and mind need ample time to rest and recover regularly. Sleep deprivation is more common amongst professionals in the Philippines in comparison to obesity. Especially now since our routines are shaken up due to the ECQ extensions, try to set yourself a goal to get to bed early rather than binge-watching Netflix!




Health Tip 4: MEAL PREP

Do meal preparation once or twice a week. This will make your overall cooking time much less which gives you more time to do other things! An additional bonus will be that your grocery costs will be much less as you are shopping more efficiently.


Pro Tip: Meal prep itself can be daunting to some but start off simply by planning what meals you are going to cook for the week, from morning till evening. This will make you more conscious and become a master at meal prep before you'd know!



Health Tip 5: EXPERIMENT

Try different healthy recipes (Ex: overnight oats, fruit smoothie bowl) which can help you transition into a healthier lifestyle even after the quarantine.

Health Tip 6: EXERCISE YOUR BRAIN

Read a book or do online classes. This one is my favorite and so easy to do. This will help you learn something new continuously. With Skillshare you can get 2 months free and has so many great courses from art to photography and well worth checking it out.


Pro Tip: Share with your friends your finished books. This way you don't need to buy a ton of books and hey, if your friends already read the latest books, it must be good, right?


Health Tip 7: INDULGE IN SOME TLC

Sadly, all spas, nail salons, and massage places are closed throughout Metro Manila but do not fret! Create a luxurious haven at home where you can relax!

Pamper yourself with extensive skincare routine or hair treatment. Now's a good time to take care of our bodies so we can feel good about our physical well-being.

Health Tip 8: SIMPLIFY

Declutter your stuff. Go through your closet or room or kitchen and itemize the things you really need. Separate those which you barely use and store it in boxes, away from your regular stuff.

Health Tip 9: GIVE BACK TO THE PHILIPPINES

Look for fund-raisers or other ways to help out fellow Filipinos that are less fortunate than you. If you can donate, go ahead. Remember donations don't always need to be financial.


Often you can volunteer, donate food supplies or clothing, and simply LIKE and SHARE their pleads on social media. It is inexpensive but will help out those in need!

Health Tip 10: (RE-)CONNECT

Spend quality time with your family and loved ones. It's not often that you get a lot of time to be with them so try to make the most of it. Try to disconnect from your work life for a few hours and take time to talk with your family, in person, or with the help of modern technology.


Pro Tip: Watching a movie together is a nice way to bond. Even if you are far apart, settle on a time and watch it virtually together!
